Charismatic leader needed

In the name of democracy there is a sense of lawlessness beginning to prevail in this country. The so-called international community would do well to keep out of Indonesian politics; only Indonesians themselves can really understand the complexity of holding this diverse and scattered population together in this amazing country. Surely, what is needed now is a powerful charismatic leader with full military backing to achieve stability and unity again.

The comments by Ichlasul Amal of Gajah Mada University (The Jakarta Post, Aug. 12, 2000) made a lot of sense.

I must stand again by my previous statement: Why destroy one of the most able men in the country by making him a scapegoat?
