Charges against Malaysian dropped

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: East Kalimantan Police officers arrested a Malaysian national and are tracking down two others, accused of financially backing illegal logging operations in the province.

Insp. Gen. Budi Utomo said, however, that due to lack of evidence, the suspect could only be charged with an immigration violation.

The provincial police have arrested 4 financiers of illegal logging since early this year and seized 96,911 cubic metes of illegal logs from them. -- JP
