The challenges facing the Moslem based United Development
Party (PPP) are not unlike those facing other organizations. They
are, among others, the need for more openness, the fight against
human rights abuses and the widening gap between the rich and the
poor posed by rapid social changes and poor quality human
resources.

To be able to address these challenges, the PPP must first
keep its own house in order. Next month's congress will provide a
chance for the party to do this while setting up the party
program. This will hopefully give the public an alternative party
amid the public's exasperation toward political parties.
