Central Java has new police chief

SEMARANG: National Police chief Lt. Gen. Rusdihardjo swore in on Monday Maj. Gen. Kadaryanto as Central Java Police chief to replace Maj. Gen. Nurfaizi, who has been appointed Jakarta Police chief.

"We are now in the process of internal changes needed to improve our performance. The need for change is a consequence of the police's past authoritarian approach and behavior," Rusdihardjo said.

Rusdihardjo also called on people to remain vigilant of the security situation in the country, which has yet to return to normal due to the unabated conflict in Aceh and Ambon.

Kadaryanto was formerly the personnel affairs assistant to the National Police chief. (har/edt)
