Central Jakarta admin readies for floods

JAKARTA: The Central Jakarta municipality on Saturday held a flood drill involving 1,200 people on Saturday to anticipate possible flooding in the rainy season.

Those who took part in the drill included public order officers, firefighters, police, soldiers, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) volunteers and district and subdistrict officials.

"This drill is to assess the readiness of the relevant parties involved in helping flood victims," Central Jakarta Mayor Muhayat said when leading the drill at the Central Jakarta municipal office.

Muhayat stressed the importance of preparing public kitchens in at least 10 flood-prone areas so that no flood victims would go hungry.

Muhayat said each kitchen could serve 100 people every 20 minutes. --Antara
