Celluloid selections at theaters this weekend

Flubber. Cast: Robin Williams, Marcia Gray Hayden. Director: Les Mayfield.
A genius professor (Williams) finds Flubber, a flying rubber appliance which can be used to fly a car and singlehandedly beat a basketball team. The professor refuses when his girlfriend eggs him on to sell Flubber to a conglomerate, but a crafty businessman manages to steal Flubber and destroy Weebo, a funny robot with female voice. The professor and his girlfriend try to get Flubber back.
The Jackal. Cast: Bruce Willis, Richard Gere, Sydney Poitier. Director: Michael Caton-Jones.
In his plan to kill a high-ranking American official, the wily Jackal (Willis) confuses the FBI in his myriad disguises and collaborates with a Russian female agent.
The final chance of thwarting the assassin's plan lies with Declan (Gere), who has already had run-ins with the Jackal. He endeavors to track the Jackal down, but is trapped and has to save his own life.
Cop Land. Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Robert De Niro. Director: James Mangold.
In a town populated with corrupt New York cops living off mafia money, nothing can stop illegal dealings or even murder. A simpleton sheriff, Freddy Heflin (Stallone), initially prefers to maintain the status quo, but then gets a shot of morality. He decides to bring the tower of corruption down after a cop commits a reckless act threatening to expose their mob connection.
My Best Friend's Wedding. Cast: Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz. Director: P.J. Hogan.
When her best friend (Mulroney) tells her that he is getting married, Julianne (Roberts) discovers she is in love with him after nine years of friendship.
Then she decides desperately to fight over his heart and sets out to compete with his ingenuous fiancee.
Home Alone 3. Cast: Alex D. Linz, Olek Krupa. Director: Raja Gosnell (opening soon).
Eight-year-old Alex Pruitt (Linz) is stuck home alone with a case of chicken pox, while his father leaves town on an urgent business trip and mom has to attend several important meetings.
As fate would have it, an international smuggling ring moves in on his neighborhood in search of a microchip. Armed with his two pets, a rat and a carrot, Pruitt is the only one who can save his street from the bad guys. (ste)
