CBC wins ASEAN bridge tourney

JAKARTA (JP): CBC club of Jakarta collected 126 victory points (VP) to win the men's team event at the ASEAN inter-club bridge tournament at Papandayan hotel in Bandung, West Java, on Sunday, Antara reported.

The CBC team -- comprising Giovanni Watulingas/Taufik Asbi, Irwan Nimara/Alfa Irinanda and Felix Sumendap -- outshone Bandung-based Compaq club 26-4 in the seven sessions of the last match.

Volta of Manado, North Sulawesi, took second place with 117 VP followed by Garuda Jakarta with 114 VP, the news agency quoted Jappy Kojongian, spokesman for the Indonesian Contract Bridge Association (Gabsi), as saying Sunday.

In the women's team event, Lippo Bank Jakarta comprising Lusye Boyoh/Elita Sofyan and Riantini/Irene Korengkeng had no difficulty in beating Muthia of Riau 124-87 International Match Point (IMP).

Singapore-based SCBA was the only non-Indonesian team which made it to the top during the tournament. In the last match, it beat Mojang Bandung 76-33 IMP.

Jarum of Semarang won the junior team event, collecting 280 VP from the overall 14 sessions. Jarum fielded Anthony Subroto, Vicky Sanjaya, Budi Waluyo, Suci Arnita Dewi and Kristina Wahyu in the tournament.

Gunadarma University of Jakarta came second with 272 VP and University of Indonesia third with 234 VP.

Jarum also won the West Java Governor Cup Open Team Bridge Tournament after collecting 127 VP from six sessions using the Swiss system. This time, the club was represented by Bambang Hartono/Tanujan, Tatang Kristiadi/Supeno and Dana.

Pimara of Bandung was runner-up with 127 VP, while PT ISI of Tangerang was third with 120 VP. (ivy)
