Associated Press, San Diego

Rookie Smush Parker hit a 3-point shot in the final 4.4 seconds Monday to lift the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 102-101 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Parker, a 1.91-meter guard who left Fordham University after his sophomore year, hit a wide open shot from the left side to give Cleveland (2-3) the win.

The shot ruined Kobe Bryant's heroics down the stretch for the Lakers (2-4).

Bryant struggled with his shooting, going just 6-of-19 from the field. But he made two big baskets in the final 70 seconds that kept the Lakers in front.

Bryant, who scored 16 points, hit a running 3-meter (10-foot) shot at the baseline with 1:10 remaining for a 99-95 lead. He followed with a flying dunk off a rebound to put Los Angeles ahead 101-97 with 31 seconds left.

Forward Rasheed Wallace led the Trail Blazers (5-2) with 19 points and seven rebounds, while McInnis had 15 points and Bonzi Wells added 11.

New addition Keon Clark had 14 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and six blocked shots for the Kings (4-2). Hedo Turkoglu and Scot Pollard each added 10 points for Sacramento, which did not have forward Chris Webber, who sat out with a groin injury.

In Casper, Wyoming, Gary Payton, Brent Barry and Desmond Mason scored 16 points each Seattle rolled to a win over Phoenix.

Jerome James added 10 points and six rebounds for the Sonics, who scored the game's first five points and never trailed en route to winning the first NBA game in Wyoming since the mid- 1980s.

Joe Johnson and Casey Jacobsen had 15 points each for the Suns, who played without starters Shawn Marion, Tom Gugliotta and Penny Hardaway.

Mason scored 12 points in the second quarter, including a pair of slam dunks, as the Sonics surged to a 55-31 halftime lead.

In New York, Matt Harpring scored 13 points as Utah held New York to just 24 percent shooting in the first half to beat the Knicks.

Karl Malone and DeShawn Stevenson each had 12 points, and former Knick Mark Jackson had eight assists in 23 minutes for Utah (3-4), which won its second straight game after losing four in succession.

Allan Houston had 17 points, including on 11-of-12 shooting from the free throw line, to lead the Knicks (4-3).

Clarence Weatherspoon added 11 rebounds and Howard Eisley had 13 points and nine assists for the Knicks, who shot 39 percent and committed 22 turnovers.
