Cattle safer now

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: West Nusa Tenggara is now slightly safer after the local police declared war against cattle thieves.

The province's police chief Col. Moechlis Moechtar said the campaign against thieves in many villages have proven effective.

Police have distributed bamboo gongs to households in areas where cattle thievery had been rife, Moechlis said.

He said that in Narmada district in the West Lombok regency there has not had any reports of missing cattle since the operation was launched. Previously, there were at least three reported cases of stolen cattle each week. (emb)
