Cathay links HK, NY

JAKARTA (JP): From next month Cathay Pacific Airways will fly between Hong Kong and New York, United States, five times per week.

"New York is one of the great cities in the world and is an important addition to Cathay's worldwide network. The airline is expecting the flights to be popular with business and leisure travelers visiting the East Coast and New York in particular," the company's manager for Indonesia, Gregory Hughes, said yesterday.

The company will operate Boeing B-747-400 jets for the Hong Kong-New York service which will include a stopover in Vancouver, Canada. New York will be Cathay's fourth destination in North America after Los Angeles, Vancouver and Toronto.

Cathay currently flies to three cities in Indonesia -- Jakarta, Surabaya in East Java and Denpasar in Bali.

The airline, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Swire Pacific, serves 46 cities in 27 countries with 58 aircraft. (icn)
