Cathay improves services

JAKARTA (JP): Passengers flying Cathay Pacific between Indonesia and Hong Kong will enjoy their own television set in all first, business and economy class seats starting next month.

Cathay Pacific's manager in Indonesia, Gregory Hughes, said yesterday the service improvement plan, particularly the introduction of personal televisions in economy class, was part of a US$150 million services upgrade.

He said the service upgrade plan in Indonesia would cost about Rp 600 million (about $253,000).

Cathay Pacific, which began serving Indonesia in 1969, operates 20 nonstop flights from Jakarta, Denpasar and Surabaya to Hong Kong every week.

The airline operates Boeing B-747-200s, Airbus A-330-300s and A-340-400 jets on its Indonesia routes.

Cathay Pacific is a publicly-listed firm but also owned by Swire Pacific Ltd and China's CITIC Pacific Ltd. (icn)
