Cathay eases confusion
JAKARTA (JP): Cathay Pacific Airways announced yesterday its plan to clarify exchange rates when people buy airline tickets due to the instability of the exchange rates.
The company said that in order to meet passengers' expectations, starting Feb. 1, every ticket issued by Cathay Pacific must contain the airline exchange rate on the date of issuance (DOI) of the ticket.
The exchange rate written on the travel documents will comply with the exchange rate used by the national air carrier.
If the airline exchange rate is not shown on a passenger ticket, the payment is considered to be done in U.S. dollars. Therefore the amount will be converted into U.S. dollars upon settlement with the bank.
Passengers who wish to make a refund later on will get the amount paid in rupiah based on the airline exchange rate on the DOI of the ticket, the company said. (gis)
