Case against Yusril rejected
JAKARTA: The South Jakarta District Court has rejected a motion filed by a lawyer in a dispute with the now liquidated Yusril Ihza Mahendra and Partners law firm, saying the motion has no legal basis.
"The court rejects the motion and suggests the registrant file a civil lawsuit," court chief Soedarto said in a letter dated June 10, a copy of which was made available by an official to the media at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights on Thursday.
The letter was addressed to M. Soleh Amin, a lawyer representing TM Luthfi Yazid, the law firm cofounder who demanded the court order Yusron Ihza, the liquidator of the firm, to present his report on the company's dissolution on March 26.
It remains unclear how the letter was obtained by the ministry official.
Yusron is the brother of Yusril Ihza Mahendra, the justice and human rights minister. Yusril, Yusron, Luthfi and Hidayat Achyar established the law firm in 2001.
After parting with Luthfi last year, Yusron and Yusril founded Ihza and Ihza law office.
Iskandar Sonhadji, Luthfi's other lawyer, questioned the court's decision to leak information to Yusron about the court's decision.
"The letter was supposed to be given only to us as the registrant. I wonder how they (Yusron and company) could obtain it," he said. -- JP
