Cargill supplies soybeans

JAKARTA (JP): Trading company PT Cargill Indonesia signed an agreement on Friday with the Federation of Indonesian Tempe and Tofu Cooperatives (INKOPTI) to supply 200,000 metric tons of U.S. soybeans to the federation over the next year.

"We share the goal of providing a stable, dependable and low- cost supply of basic food to Indonesians," Cargill Indonesia general manager Aldi Djatijanto said in a statement.

He added that the agreement would ultimately benefit consumers throughout the country.

INKOPTI chairman Akil Dermawi said that Cargill's global distribution network and risk management experience would help the federation cut costs, which in turn would benefit end-users in Indonesia.

INKOPTI has about 150 member cooperatives that represent more than 43,000 tempe and tofu producers nationwide. (udi)
