Car thieves arrested in Bogor

BOGOR (JP): Local police arrested two alleged car thieves in Cibenteng Udik, Parung district, an officer said on Friday.

Bogor Police chief Col. Hari Setyabudhi said the two men, identified as Jeprinal Zurden, 39, and Asep Ardi, 40, had been stealing rental vehicles for the past two months.

"The two acted as customers who wanted to rent a car. In one incident, they leased a Kijang van from Juwita car rental in Sukabumi," Hari said.

"The men asked the driver to head toward Bogor and stop at a cafe so they could have a drink. Then they slipped some sleeping pills into the driver's drink and stole the car with its complete documents," Hari said.

Both men have admitted to stealing seven Kijang vans, five of which were sold to buyers in Palembang, Lampung and Medan, the officer said.

"The other two cars are being held as evidence," Hari said. (24/edt)
