Car-free day on Sunday

JAKARTA: In a bid to reduce the use of private vehicles, the city administration and several environmental organizations will launch the annual Car-free Day drive.

During the campaign, the usually busy strip of Jl. Sudirman and Jl. M. H. Thamrin will be closed to motorized vehicles from 6 a.m. through 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The public is encouraged to use non-motorized vehicles.

During the temporary closure of these roads various events will be held including sports competitions and concerts.

The Car-free Day is part of the administration's effort to promote its bylaw on air pollution control. -- JP
