Car crash kills four

A Kijang van crashed into a bus on a street in Ujung Pendok subdistrict in Indramayu, West Java, on Wednesday, killing four people and injuring four others.

Prabowo, 46 and Satiman, 50 -- the driver and a passenger of the van respectively -- were killed on the scene of the accident, while two other unidentified female passengers died on their way to the hospital. Four other Kijang passengers -- who were badly injured in the accident -- were admitted to Indramayu Hospital.

Adj. Comr. Jhonson Madui, the head of Indramayu Police traffic section, said that the accident began when the speeding van was heading east to Cirebon from Jakarta. The van was trying to overtake another vehicle, but at the same time, a Sinar Jaya intercity bus was coming from the opposite direction, making the deadly collision unavoidable. -- JP
