Capt. Suko faces calls for dismissal
YOGYAKARTA: Military prosecutors are demanding Capt. Suko Haryanto, who stands accused in a bribery case, be sentenced to 32 months in prison and be discharged from the police force.
Prosecuting attorney Col. Asmar Gutji told a military tribunal Monday that the defendant had received a bribe from two drug traffickers named A Siong Margono and Toni Hartoyo.
The defendant had allegedly received Rp 45 million for the release of Sara Regina, one of A Siong's and Toni's accomplices, when she was arrested for illegal drug possession in March 1997.
But Suko claims most of the money he received went to his superior, former head of Yogyakarta's detective unit Lt. Col. Hanifan.
The trial, which began last week, will resume today to hear the defendant's plea. (44)
