Canteen for diabetes patients

TANGERANG (JP): A canteen for diabetes mellitus patients is now open at the Tangerang public hospital to help patients maintain their diet, chairwoman of Tangerang branch of the Diabetes Association (Persadia) Sri Mulyana Thamrin says.

After officially opening the canteen on Friday, Sri Mulyana said that the small restaurant was merely meant to assist diabetes patients to get healthy meals or food based on their doctors' advise.

Without revealing the total cost spent for the new canteen, Sri Mulyana said that healthy people were also welcome to use the canteen, as people know very little about things related to diabetes mellitus including the diet.

Sri Mulyana also awarded tokens of appreciation to 17 patients for their discipline in following all programs and activities held by Persadia. The patients are also diligent in keeping their condition under control, she said. (41/sur)
