Candra, Tony, Lisa win Bola's Awards

JAKARTA (JP): Men's doubles shuttlers Candra Wijaya and Tony Gunawan and women's weightlifter Lisa Rumbewas won the 2000 Best Athlete Award conferred by Bola sports tabloid on Saturday to commemorate its 17th anniversary.

The sports awards ceremony was broadcasted live by RCTI private channel.

Candra and Tony earned 1,213 votes leading other nominees such as bodybuilder Ade Rai who won the 2000 Musclemania, soccer player Gendut Doni who scored the most goals at the Anniversary Cup and Tiger Cup, Sydney Olympic's men's singles silver medalist Hendrawan and chess Grand Master Utut Adianto.

Sydney silver medalist Lisa received 1,197 votes. Other nominees were rock climber Etti Hendrawati who won the Summer X Games in San Francisco and the Asian Pacific X Games in Thailand, karateka Meisya Karmajaya who won the gold medal at the Shotokan Junior World Championship and taekwondoin Rahadani Neta who grabbed a title in the Korean Open taekwondo championships.

Indonesia's Thomas Cup team received 992 votes to take the Best Team Award, outdoing Indonesia's contract bridge team who took the 2000 world champion, the karate team which reached the fourth place in the ITKF World Championship, and the junior chess team which grabbed the bronze medal at the Merdeka Cup in Kuala Lumpur.

For the Best Coach Award, Herry Imam Pierngadi grabbed the title with 702 votes. Other contenders were South Korean taekwondo head coach Oh Il-nam, weightlifter coach Lukman and junior chess coach Danni Juswanto.

Lisa also received the Most Favorite Female Athlete Award and Ade Rai got the award in the men's category. Neta won the Promising Female Athlete Award and junior chess player Andrean Susilodinata won the award in men's division. (nvn)
