Cancer registry project launched

JAKARTA: The government and several cancer foundations launched on Monday a project that will help the country collect detailed data on cancer cases in the country, which is expected to improve cancer treatment here.

The National Cancer Registry Pilot Project aims at collecting, compiling and analyzing detailed and specific data from main cancer centers; permitting analysis (epidemiology, clinical) of exploitable data; and strengthening the bridge between cancer specialists.

As part of the project, hospitals are expected to record and send information on all cancer cases to a central database every month using an online system.

"We hope this project will eventually help us develop a system for recording cancer cases that will gain a reputation in the international community," said Indonesian Oncology Organization chairman Zoebairi Djoerban. -- JP
