Canadian envoy visits RI
JAKARTA: Canadian Ambassador for Climate Change Jacques Bilodeau visited Indonesia last week to discuss climate change issues with Indonesian officials and community representatives, the Canadian Embassy in Jakarta said.
Canada is hosting the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Montreal from Nov. 28 to Dec. 9.
During his two-day visit to Indonesia, Ambassador Bilodeau participated in a round table conference on climate change in Jakarta and met with senior Indonesian government officials.
Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia Randolph Mank commended Bilodeau's visit to Indonesia.
"Both Canada and Indonesia are susceptible to the significant implications that (climate change) brings about. I was pleased that Ambassador Bilodeau was able to travel to Indonesia to share Canada's experience and to learn ways in which the two countries can work together to address this global issue," Mank said in a press release sent to The Jakarta Post.
The Canadian government has established a fund called "Canadian Climate Change Development Fund" to help people in developing countries address climate change issues.
The fund supported two important projects -- Forest Resource Management for Carbon Sequestration project in Nunukan, East Kalimantan, and the Climate Change, Forests and Peatlands in Indonesia project in Sumatra and Central Kalimantan. -- JP
