Canadian aid for irrigation
PALU, Central Java: The Canada-Indonesia Development Association has provided Rp 1 billion (US$303 million) for the upgrading of village irrigation networks in Central Sulawesi, a local irrigation official said.
Asmirin, head of Central Sulawesi's irrigation service, said starting from the 1997/1998 state budget, the funds would be disbursed through the Trained Farmers Irrigation System project to repair dozens of village irrigation networks in four of the province's districts.
The total area of fields irrigated by the village networks is 2,000 hectares. (swe)
