Campaigners told to educate voters

JAKARTA: National Awakening Party (PKB) cofounder Abdurrahman Wahid asked all party campaigners to refrain from verbally attacking other parties while campaigning.

Speaking before 600 party cadres, Abdurrahman, better known as Gus Dur, told the party campaigners to promote dialog with constituents and offer programs the party was fighting for.

PKB gathered on Thursday its members who would promote the party's programs to woo people's support during the campaign period between March 11 and April 1.

Chairperson of the party's election team of success Khofifah Indar Parawansa said the campaigners would be encouraged to make use of the campaign period to educate voters, instead of agitating them.

Khofifah also said the party campaigners were not supposed to exploit religious symbols to justify party interests. -- Antara
