Caltex workers staying put

PEKANBARU, Riau: The joint venture oil company, PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI), here has no plans as yet to evacuate its foreign employees, despite a mass exodus of foreigners due to widespread rioting in Jakarta last week.

No CPI employee or his family has left Indonesia but they were advised not to leave Pekanbaru for unimportant reasons, company spokesman Harry Bustaman was quoted as saying by Antara yesterday.

The company's daily operations in Rumbai district continues as usual, he said, adding that CPI representatives even attended the Koran reading contest for Riau province which ended Saturday night.

CPI, Indonesia's biggest joint venture oil company, is owned by the Indonesian state oil company, PT Pertamina, and the US' California-Texas Oil Co.
