Calls to investigate chief prosecutor

PADANG, West Sumatra: Members of the West Sumatra legislative council have demanded an investigation into alleged corruption involving local chief prosecutor Halius Hosen.

Councillor Faigi Asa on Friday said the council had verified a report that a Rp 1 billion luxury house in the Gando Permata housing complex in Padang, belonged to Hosen.

The verification was based on an admission by the house's construction supervisor, Faigi said.

The demand for an investigation comes after a number of councillors went on trial at the Padang District Court on corruption charges laid by Hosen's office.

Prosecutors accused the councillors of graft over irregularities in drafting the 2002 budget for West Sumatra. --JP
