Call for more AIDS awareness
FAKFAK, Irian Jaya: The head of Irian Jaya's health office, Dr. Slamet H., called for greater public awareness yesterday to prevent the spread of the deadly AIDS virus.
Slamet was quoted by Antara as saying that the province's number of AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) cases could well rise given that health officials could not conduct enough examinations.
He said that most AIDS prevention work was done by community leaders disseminating information.
Two hundred and forty-four cases of full-blown AIDS have been reported in the province.
