Cafeteria makes students nauseous

SEMARANG, Central Java: At least 15 students at the Oceanology Polytechnic in Semarang felt nauseous after they had bread and milk from a cafeteria on campus.

Five students -- Eko Siswanto, Auliya Rahman, Edi Pridosono, Sofyan Arif, and Danang P -- suffered severe nausea and indigestion, and were admitted to Roemani Hospital in the city.

Ten others were permitted to go home after receiving first aid at the polytechnic's clinic.

Auliya said on Monday that he became nauseous after he ate bread and drank milk at the polytechnic, as part of regular meals provided by the institute.

"I felt dizzy and had stomachache afterwards, and then I was admitted to the hospital," he said.

Arso Martopo, the director of the polytechnic, said it was the first incidence of food poisoning at the polytechnic. -- JP
