Cadets expelled for cheating
MAGELANG, Central Java: The Military Academy has dishonorably expelled 11 first- and second-year cadets after learning that they had forged the mark in their high school diplomas when they enrolled.
The 11 consisted of nine cadet sergeant majors and two cadet corporals, Lt. Col. Soerachman, the academy's chief spokesman, told Antara.
Soerachman said the college is determined to clean its image and will continue to scrutinize the documents of cadets admitted into the academy. Last year the academy expelled 13 students on similar grounds.
Those who forged their high school diplomas are causing losses to the state because their studies are subsidized by the government. Their action also deprived those who should have been admitted in their place, he added.
Soerachman said he would leave it to the police on whether to prosecute the expelled cadets, noting that forging school diplomas is a criminal offense. (emb)
