Cab driver votes for 'P7'

JAKARTA: As the election campaign shifts into high gear, more people have tales to tell of the time they were pressured into supporting one of the three political contestants.

Wilson, a driver for the Kosti Jaya taxi company, said he was asked by his village leader if he would vote for the ruling Golkar. Wilson, a native of predominately-Moslem West Sumatra, said he would not.

"Are you voting for PPP (the Moslem-based United Development Party) then?" the neighborhood chief demanded.

"No, I'm a P7," Wilson said. "That's Pergi Pagi Pulang Pagi Pendapatan Pas-Pasan (Leaving for work in the morning and only able to return home the next morning, but never earning enough to make ends meet)." (swe)
