C. Sulawesi councillors inaugurated

PALU, Central Sulawesi: New Central Sulawesi provincial
councillors were inaugurated on Saturday amid noisy protests by
students outside the council building in Palu, the capital of
Central Sulawesi province.

Two out of the total number of 45 councillors were absent from
the inauguration ceremony. One died recently while the other was
barred from serving as a councillor after being found guilty of
producing a fake diploma while running for the council in the
April 5 legislative elections.

During their protest, the students demanded that the
councillors elected for the 2004-2009 term work to root out
corruption in the province. -- JP
