C. Java to fix roads for the holidays

SEMARANG: Deputy Governor of the Economy Djoko Sudantoko said on Tuesday the Central Java administration would repair some 19 overpasses on the province's main roads to prevent additional traffic jams during the holidays.

He said motorists passing through the northern, central and southern parts of the province would most likely experience traffic jams during the upcoming Christmas, Idul Fitri and New Year holidays.

"Traffic congestion happens in the areas because the 19 overpasses have been badly damaged by flood and landslides," he said.

The overpasses included those located in the regencies of Banyumas, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Cilacap, Brebes, Sragen and Demak.

Djoko said the repair work had started and hopefully would be completed in the middle of December.

"But seriously damaged overpasses will take longer to repair, possibly into next year," he said. (har/hdn)
