C. Java sends 12 karatekas

SEMARANG (JP): Central Java is sending 12 karatekas to fight in the KSAD (Army Chief of Staff) Cup national karate championships in Palembang, South Sumatra, from Sept. 15 to Sept. 17.

The Indonesian Karate-do Federation (FORKI) Central Java chapter secretary Hartono said Wednesday the men's karatekas are Joko Mulyono, who will compete in the kumite 55-kgs weight division, Tino (60-kgs), Heddy (65-kgs), Sitolumai (70-kgs), Fafan (75-kgs) and Kusbianto (70-kgs) while the women's karatekas are Titi Sari (60-kgs) and Evi Herawati, a competitor in the individual kata event.

"They were selected in a local championship event in Purwokerto and we hope that they can compete with karatekas from other provinces. The competition in the KSAD Cup will be tight because Forki uses this event to measure the sports development in this country," he said. (har)
