C. Java qualifies 28 sports for PON
SEMARANG (JP): The National Sports Council (KONI) Central Java chapter official of athletes development, Kurniawan, said on Friday that the province had qualified 28 of 35 sports for the 2000 National Games in Surabaya.
The 28 sports, among others, are fencing, weightlifting, cycling, basketball, indoor and beach volleyball, badminton, wrestling, judo, windsurfing, shooting, archery, swimming and diving, gymnastics, tennis, boxing, karate, billiards and snooker, wushu, contract bridge, chess, kempo, parachuting, gliding and wallclimbing.
Kurniawan said Central Java still hoped to add more sports qualified for PON from pencak silat, water skiing, table tennis and taekwondo.
However, he said the KONI Central Java chapter would only send potential medalist winners to PON. (har)
