C. Java polio cases rise to 4

SEMARANG, Central Java: Central Java health office has registered one more child with polio in Pati regency, bringing the number of polio cases reported in the province this year to four.

The other polio cases were in Cilacap, Brebes and Demak regencies, said the chief of Central Java health office, Budihardja.

Most of the children with polio come from poor families who lack access to proper sanitation, said Budihardja.

The four children with polio were vaccinated on Aug. 30 and Sept. 27 to lessen the disease's effect on them.

Budihardja reported that in the first round of the polio immunization drive on Aug. 30, over 2.8 million children under five were vaccinated, surpassing the target of 2.7 million people. -- Antara
