C. Java cyclists attend invitational

SEMARANG (JP): Five Central Java cyclists will take part in the 18th PU Cup national cycling invitational in Wonogiri, Central Java, which kicks off on Sunday.

Paulus Kristono, the Central Java cycling team manager, said the cyclists were Aris Setiyono, Iwan Setiawan, Taufik Basuki, Heksa Priya Praseya and Mohammad Denny Setyawan.

"We aim at finishing in the top five," he said on Saturday.

The cyclists will pedal 110 km of the ring road at Gajah Mungkur dam, passing through nine districts, such as Wonogiri city, Wuryantoro, Eromoko, Pracimantoro, Giritontro, Giriwoyo, Baturetno, Nguntoronadi and Ngadirojo.

Some 150 cyclists from across the nation will attend the event. The Central Java team will face tough contenders from Araya Surabaya club from East Java, the West Java chapter of the Indonesian Cycling Association (ISSI) which has fielded its top cyclists Tonton Susanto and Amin Suryana, the Yogyakarta team with M. Basri, Abdul Rohman and the Malang chapter of ISSI, which has fielded Ferrynanto and Moh. Rifan. (har)
