C. Jakarta reallocates street vendors

JAKARTA: The Central Jakarta mayoralty has planned to reallocate around 150 street vendors from Mangga Dua shopping center in Mangga Dua Selatan subdistrict, Central Jakarta. The plan is to avoid conflict between the street vendors and the official traders at the centers.

The street vendors, who are being overseen by the municipality, will be housed in 60 kiosks in Jatibaru area, Cideng subdistrict, Central Jakarta. The municipality secretary, Sadoni, said that the kiosks would be separated from the existing ones to avoid any dispute.

"Disputes among street vendors happen all the time," he said, as quoted by Beritajakarta.com on Saturday. "We'll move them as soon as possible because the street vendors have clashed several times with traders at the centers."

Sadoni said that the mayor of Central Jakarta has approved the moving of the street vendors but requested the plan proceed peacefully. -- JP
