Buy a banana, get marijuana

DEPOK: Three banana vendors were arrested by plainclothes policemen on Sunday morning at Kemiri Muka market, Beji, Depok, for allegedly trading marijuana.

The suspects, Agus Suhairi, 32, and Wahyudin Pidie, 24, were nabbed after police received a tipoff.

Police seized six packages of marijuana, Rp 684,000 (US$80) in cash and a cellular phone.

The two residents of Depok sold bananas in an apparent cover for drug dealing.

Later in the afternoon, police also nabbed another suspected drug dealer at the same market, identified as Wardi, 31. He also allegedly sold bananas as a cover for drug dealing. Police confiscated a package of marijuana from him.

Depok Police said they were questioning the three suspects to glean more information on their drug ring. -- JP
