Busy day for firefighters

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Fire Department was kept busy with six major fires on Wednesday. No casualties were reported.

The latest incident was at a line of shop houses on Jl. Kota Bambu Raya in West Jakarta at about 5 p.m. About four hours earlier, fire destroyed eight houses on nearby Jl. Kota Bambu Selatan.

In North Jakarta, several houses on Jl. Agung Utara, near the private Tarumanegara University were damaged. Another house on Jl. Cimanggis, East Jakarta, was also damaged.

Two fire trucks were sent to extinguish a fire in a house on Jl. Cempaka Baru IX, Central Jakarta, while South Jakarta firemen had to deal with an out-of-control garbage fire set by residents of Jl. Mujahiddin in Kebayoran Lama. -- JP
