Busway to get more women drivers

JAKARTA: Busway operator TransJakarta Busway revealed on Thursday that at least one third of its drivers would be women.

"They drive well, they hit the brakes smoothly ... We have received positive responses from our passengers," said TransJakarta chairman Bambang Gardjito.

He said that the women drivers would be hired for the existing Blok M-Kota busway route and the two new routes running from East Jakarta's Pulogadung to Central Jakarta's Harmoni and from Harmoni to West Jakarta's Kalideres.

Currently, nine women hired in April are working as drivers on the existing busway route. They work the peak morning rush-hour shifts, starting at 7 a.m. -- JP
