Busway, let's wait and see
From reading the letter titled On the busway in The Jakarta Post on Jan. 20 by Gandhi Sukardi, and its closing comment that "traffic jams still occur -- although they are not as serious as before the advent of the busway", it is obvious that the author is not living in the world of reality.
Since the busway began, rush-hour traffic jams have been positively apocalyptic. Some of the worst ever. How can anyone make any logical conclusions regarding the busway since it started just a few days ago, the fares are still free and the feeder bus system isn't yet operational?
Even against the odds, I sincerely hope that the busway ultimately succeeds in reducing Jakarta's traffic problems, but it is too early to conclude anything, let alone start waving any banners of victory for its instigators.
