Busway construction to resume in April
JAKARTA: The construction on two new busway corridors will resume at the end of April, the head of the city's transportation agency, Rustam Effendy, said on Friday.
Construction of the two corridors -- which run between Pulo Gadung, East Jakarta, and Harmoni, Central Jakarta, and from Harmoni to Kalideres, West Jakarta, respectively -- was abruptly halted in January pending the disbursement of funds from the 2005 city budget.
"We hope to be able to resume work on the busway corridors at the end of April," said Rustam.
He said the corridors should be in operation by the end of the year.
City officials originally said the corridors, designed to alleviate traffic congestion, would open by August. Of 15 busway corridors planned for completion by 2007, only the Blok M to Kota corridor is up and running.
