Busway bus hits Swiss national

JAKARTA: The controversial TransJakarta Busway corridor has again exacted a toll, following a collision with a motorcycle earlier this month during the first day of the free tryout period.

A bus heading toward Kota, West Jakarta, hit a Toyota Soluna sedan as the latter was crossing the marked corridor to negotiate the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, Central Jakarta, at about 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The sedan driver, Swiss national Wuthrich Urs, said that he, along with the bus, was traveling northward from Jl. Sudirman.

As he was about to return southward along the same road, via the traffic circle, the officer guarding the corridor asked him to stop, apparently to give way to the bus.

He claimed that the same officer indicated he should move ahead, "but then my car was hit suddenly". The bus collided with the driver's door, breaking its rearview mirror.

Urs reported the incident to the city police. -- JP
