Businessmen jailed for plagiarism

JAKARTA (JP): Two businessmen were sentenced to two years jail Thursday for plagiarizing computer programs.

The West Jakarta District Court jailed Leonardus Harief Kofani, alias Leo, 29, and Kenneth Yunianto, alias Kenny, 31, after finding them guilty of plagiarism.

Witness Yulian Hariyanto, the defendants' former business partner, reported them to the authorities

The programs are designed for trading, bookkeeping and hotel management.

Kenny and Yulian set up a company to market computer programs. Two years later Leo joined them but he and Kenny copied the programs without Yulian's knowledge.

Leo and Kenny were fired but set up their own company to market the plagiarized programs.

The defendants said they would appeal to the High Court. (05)
