Businessman robbed of his valuables

JAKARTA (JP): Armed robbers broke into a house in Depok and made away with two cars, mobile phones, jewelry and a television set early Friday, city police spokesman Lt. Col. Zainuri Lubis said.

Robbed was Yoseph Ole, a 45-year-old businessman of Tipar subdistrict in Mekarsari, Depok, Lubis said. His total losses are estimated at about Rp 200 million (US$25,000).

In his police report, Yoseph said the robbers broke down the front door to enter his house at about 3:30 a.m.

"The men pointed a pistol and sharp weapons at the victim and other family members, and threatened them not to make any suspicious actions, including trying to get the attention of their neighbors," Lubis said.

The robbers demanded Yoseph show them where he kept his cash, but he replied he did not keep money in the house.

The robbers were angered, telling him to hand over his car keys. They fled the house with the family's Corolla sedan and Kijang van after putting the valuables into the vehicles.

Yoseph and his family were unharmed. Lubis said the police investigation was underway. (emf)
