Businessman robbed in Denpasar

DENPASAR, Bali (JP): Four unidentified men robbed a businessman of more than Rp 180 million in a daylight robbery on Thursday.

Local police spokesman Maj. Y. Suyatmo said Bambang Abdi, owner of Palapa Mulya car shop, had received Rp 185 million from a buyer for a secondhand Mercedes Benz sedan.

Bambang put Rp 182.5 million in a bag and the remainder of the money was with the buyer after they left in the car from a branch of Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Suyatmo said.

Four masked men on two motorcycles intercepted the car as it pulled up at the gate of Bambang's business.

"Two of the men, carrying guns, jumped out and snatched Bambang's bag. Bambang resisted and threw the bag into the shop yard," Suyatmo said.

His workers tried to grab the bag but one of the robbers fired a shot to scare them away, the officer said.

"The robbers stole the bag and fled without anybody being able to do anything to stop them," Suyatmo said. (50)
