Businessman found dead

JAKARTA (JP): A 63-year-old businessman was found dead with a shawl tied around his neck in a boardinghouse on Jl. Angkasa Dalam I in Central Jakarta yesterday, police said.

The body of Djuwardi Giyanto had began to decompose. He was believed to have died about three days ago but the cause of death is yet to be determined.

One of the deceased's relatives, who asked for anonymity, said that Djuwardi might have committed suicide. He said Djuwardi looked depressed after quarreling with his wife several days ago.

Police broke down Djuwardi's door after a relative called them for assistance. Residents had also complained of a putrid smell coming from the room.

The relative said that Djuwardi, who lived in a room on the second floor of the house, had not been seen for several days.

"I did not dare open his door. So I called the police for help," he said. He quoted police as saying that Djuwardi might have died two or three days ago.

Djuwardi's body was sent to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital for postmortem examination. (ivy)
