On behalf of our client, we would like to thank you for your
coverage of Krueng Gasui's position regarding the Busang gold
mine (May 6, 1997). However, it appears there is a misperception
which needs to be clarified. Krueng Gasui, the minority
Indonesian shareholder in Busang, supported by Golden Valley
Mines NL of Australia, stated that:

* Krueng Gasui is in no doubt that the Strathcona report is
correct.

* As the Strathcona report refers only to the Southeast zone,
Krueng Gasui, as one of the shareholders of PT Westralian Atan
Minerals (WAM), requires the opportunity to evaluate Bre-X's data
for itself, together with the original 1988 to 1989 exploration
data. This is to determine whether any further work is justified.

* Krueng Gasui intends to continue with its efforts to have
the Busang II and III Contract of Work application areas
amalgamated into PT WAM's contract area to uphold the integrity
of the Contract of Work system.
