Bus strike leaves workers stranded

BEKASI: Drivers from the PT Hiba Utama bus company went on strike on Monday, causing workers at four industrial zones in Bekasi to be late for work.

PT Hiba, which has 1,500 buses, serves mostly workers at four industrial zones: the East Jakarta Industrial Park, Jababeka, MM 2100 and the Kompleks Industri Surya Citra.

One of the organizers of the strike, Faduno Ali, said the drivers were demanding more money, claiming they now earned less than the official monthly minimum wage of Rp 671,550 (US$75).

"We also want to be allowed to establish a union," he told The Jakarta Post. -- JP
