Bus crews charge higher fares

BOGOR (JP): Bus crews traveling on routes from Bogor to Jakarta are charging higher fares than the officially set levels, which have been in effect since April 4.

Observations made by The Jakarta Post at the Baranangsiang terminal here over the weekend revealed that fares charged for routes to Kampung Rambutan, Pulogadung, Tanjung Priok, Kalideres, Bandung, and other destinations were higher, with increases ranging from Rp 180 to Rp 800, or 11 to 50 percent.

For example, on the route from Bogor to Tangerang, passengers pay Rp 2,400 instead of the official fare of Rp 1,600. Fares to Depok are Rp 1,000 instead of Rp 780.

Meanwhile, bus crews complain that while they have to pay higher daily rents, fare increases are only enough to pay for spare parts. (21/anr)
